The Volkswagen AG brand is coming up with new images, videos and details about its current flagship model in the Octavia line – the recently introduced 245 hp version of the RS line.
The Octavia RS can now be had as a liftback or as a station wagon, but also in two powertrain flavors – the standard 230 hp variant or the newly introduced 245 hp that came along with the model’s refresh. We thus have the polarizing double headlight arrangement and the usual, dull overall styling – but the sporty Octavia should make a pretty good sporty ride on a budget and when it comes to hauling your entire family. That’s thanks to the very spacious greenhouse via long wheelbase and the 590 liters for the hatchback and 610 liters for the wagon when discussing the trunk capacity. Motivation is provided by the usual 2.0 TSI tuned to 245 hp (180 kW) and 370 Nm (273 lb-ft), which is taking the not so compact model to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 6.6 or 6.7 seconds, depending on the body style.
You won’t go extremely fast… at least not for the Autobahn, because everywhere else at 155 mph (250 kph) you’re certainly losing your license. The Octavia RS 245 comes with the typical front wheel drive, but there’s a standard limited-slip differential and the option to choose between a standard six-speed manual or a seven-speed, dual-clutch automatic transmission seen for the first time on the Octavia. The facelift also brought a rear axle width increase by 30 millimeters (1.1 inches) for all versions with an independent rear suspension – and the RS is also 15 mm (0.6 inches) lower than standard models and will be offered in Moon White, Magic Black, Steel Grey, and the Corrida Red, complete with 19-inch alloy wheels and full LED headlights.
