With the E Class already out as a new generation and the rivals from BMW diligently at work testing the new installment of the 5 Series, Mercedes is looking to catch up the performance train first.
This is why we’re seeing the AMG E63 more often these days, and this time around has been captured playing on the Nurburgring Nordschleife. We also know its unveiling is coming closer and closer – or maybe it’s just the summer heat making the model lose some of its camouflage. Now the front and rear quarters of the car are the only ones left sporting the camouflage pattern – since the parts we’re interested most are of course there. We already know Mercedes’ is going the evolutionary path here, so most of the elements will be common with the lesser E43, but we’re still sure there will be some surprises left. There are also extended wheel arches, bigger exhaust and bespoke grille.
Under the bonnet will be sitting a reportedly smaller V8 engine with a four-liter displacement. It appears the entry level E63 will be sporting even more power than the older 5.5-liter, with 571 PS (563 HP) and 750 Nm (553.2 lb-ft) of torque on tap. There will also be the usual S installment, which ups the ante to 612 PS (604 HP) and 850 Nm (627 lb-ft) of torque, sent to the road using a 4Motion system.
