While BMW has recently updated the 2 Series and its flagship M2 offering, the engineering team is actually running around the Nurburgring Nordschleife in order to get the long-rumored M2 CS in order for the moment of reveal.
The M2 has been the light and nimble performance coupe BMW fans have been asking for years, and they’re getting ready to become spoiled – with the approaching introduction of an even hotter version of the compact coupe. This latest spy video shows what is thought to be the M2 CS, looking decidedly at home on the famed Green Hell track. The M2 CS is short for Clubsport, and allegedly has under the hood S55 biturbo 3.0-liter inline-six engine taken straight from the M3 and M4. The engine power will come slightly detuned in this installment – around 400 horsepower (298 kilowatts), which is below the 425 hp (317 kW) level of the current version of the powerplant, but still 35 hp above the existing M2’s 365 hp (268 kW).
Of course, that won’t be the only upgrade – other performance enhancements are to be expected, including larger brakes, beefier suspension and a host of aerodynamic improvements. In case you think the M2 CS might be too much, you can have right now the 150-unit production run of the M2 Performance Edition which has the M Driver’s Package, M Performance coilover suspension upgrade, and M Performance exhaust with titanium outlets as well as manually adjustable sports seats in the cockpit.
