The Mercedes-AMG GT R is apparently set to be dethroned from being the king of the hill inside the Gt range, because a new spy video has caught what apparently passes as the upcoming Black Series version of the supercar.
No matter the name the automaker chooses for this mean machine, seen here being tested hard on the Nurburgring, we can be sure it will growl pass every other GT models once unleashed on the street. AMG boss Tobias Moers has hinted since last year the performance division – which recently turned 50 years old – was going at some point to reclaim the Black Series moniker for a new version of the seemingly never-ending expansion potential of the GT family. The unit seen here roaring across the Green Hell seems a bit wider than the usual GT thanks to engorged fender flares – and there’s also a wider front end with larger intakes and canards at the corners.
At the back our attention was caught by the big exhaust in the center and the large diffuser. Bettering the GT R means the upcoming Black Series needs to ramp up power around the 603-horsepower tune of the biturbo 4.0-liter V8, which is in line with what the E63 S has, for example. It would suffice to bring it above the 577 horsepower (430 kilowatts) and 516 pound-feet (700 Newton-meters) of torque used by the current GT R flagship.
