The M-Class is dead, long live the GLE – Mercedes-Benz is now diligently erasing any traces of the old car by putting through its intense testing paces the all-new generation of the GLE.
The prototype for the new generation has been spied in Stuttgart and with the large SUV approaching its final development and testing phases, it’s also coming out with more and more design details – so we’re expecting that in no time there will be a traditional onslaught of “leaked” exterior and interior beauty shots with the SUV wearing less and less camouflage. For now, as far as we can tell, the lighting clusters – both front and rear – will share the design traits with the regular Mercedes models, such as the Mercedes-AMG GT or the upcoming CLS. The grille is also a big departure from the current GLE or the older ML.
On the side we noticed the large GLE only packs a single character line instead of two prominent ones as featured on the GLC. Thanks to the switch to the new Modular High Architecture, the second-generation GLE will also include a host of enhancements – including new engines. New inline six options are expected and we can also imagine the GLE using a 48V volt electric system that brings mild-hybrid setups with brake regeneration and intelligent coasting.
