Audi’s ad campaign partner, Venables Bell & Partners, has found a very interesting way of advertising the traditional “Vorsprung Durch Technik” meme of the Ingolstadt-based automaker.
The campaign is being put in place because Audi is going to return as the auto sponsor of the Emmy Awards for the seventh consecutive year. On this occasion, a triumvirate of 30-second spots featuring the TT RS, SQ5, and the R8 has been introduced, each paying homage to previous Emmy Award nominees and winners. First off, we have Cheers (Outstanding Comedy Series, 1991) with its “Where Everybody Knows Your Name” soundtrack, then we get to experience The Mary Tyler Moore Show (Outstanding Comedy Series, 1977) with “Love is All Around,” and our personal favorite Star Trek (Outsanding Drama Nominee, 1967) with the “Theme from Star Trek.”
The punchline is all three of them are performed in the concert hall by the so-called “Audi Orchestra” and the replica songs come to life with help from the engines of the cars – a 2.5-liter five-cylinder TFSI, a 3.0-liter six-cylinder TFSI, and the naturally aspirated 5.2-liter V10 FSI found inside the R8 V10 Plus supercar. We know some audio mixing is involved, but it’s still a nice way to introduce us to the 69th edition of the annual Emmy Awards, set for Sunday, September 17.
