The aftermarket electric specialists at Genovation – which turned an American C6 Corvette gas guzzler into a fully electric supercar – have another electric milestone to brag about.
The Maryland-based electric car manufacturer achieved a new maximum speed record for street-legal electric cars with their black C6 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 – renamed the GXE – at 209 miles per hour at the Kennedy Space Center’s Shuttle Landing facility. And it wasn’t the only one – they also nailed a standing-mile record of 190.4 mph, besting their own achievement from last year. The Genovation GXE has everything on the outside looking like a regular, black Corvette.
Under the metal though, sit two electric motor s with a combined total output of more than 700 horsepower and 600 pound-feet of torque, sent to the rear wheels. The motors sit fore and aft to create 50/50 weight distribution and power comes courtesy of a 44 kWh battery pack that normally can deliver a range of 150 miles on a single charge – but of course that doesn’t apply when reaching 190 mph.
