There’s no automaker “crazy” enough to try to fight a Demon – the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon to be more precise – but there’s one aftermarket address.
Hennessey, the same establishment that gave Bugatti a run for its money on the world production car speed records (both for the general, and cabrio one) has no issues with a Dodge… This is why they came up just about the same time as Dodge presented the Demon with the Exorcist – a take on the Camaro. The Texas tuning shop is making it plain obvious – don’t want or can’t have the Demon, then head over there and get your brand new 1,000-horsepower (745-kilowatt) Camaro ZL1. And to back their claims, they put the sinister Exorcist Camaro on the dyno. There’s an alleged 1,000 hp under the hood, and the company backs its claims – there’s no less than 959 hp (715 kW) at the wheels.
The oomph comes from the 6.2-liter supercharged V8 with new intercooler that aids in producing 14-psi of boost, but there’s also new ported cylinder heads, a new camshaft, and a reworked exhaust. Buyers can rip their heads (and leg) off with the standard six-speed manual, or save their lives with the optional new 10-speed automatic. Performance is off course off the charts – as in hypercar territory – 60 miles per hour (96 kilometers per hour) in less than three seconds, and the quarter mile in under 10 seconds with drag radials. The upgrade goes for $55,000, and then there are the optionals… including the mandatory price of the donor car.
