We kept our fingers crossed – we didn’t like Chris Evans form the start – but hoped the new Top Gear format could survive the departure of that crazy trio.
They did survive, but barely. Now onto rekindling the magic comes The Grand Tour show from Amazon. Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May are showing us they’re making their comeback through the show’s trailer. The short feature has everything we needed: supercars (including the McLaren P1, Porsche 918, LaFerrari a.k.a the Holy Trinity), a tank, a helicopter, and a camel, that one because they can and have the money. And the boys are here as boysh as ever – they even blow up cars with the tank in between making fun of each other.
There are other lovely cars – the insane Aston Martin Vulcan – the Alfa Romeo 4C Spider, the latest Mazda MX-5 Miata, and some American muscle. A hilarious Roger Moore reference from The Spy Who Loved Me, the “accidental” car drop comes for the connoisseur, while Amazon ups the stakes with 4K photography, and scenarios taking place on all four continents. Three seasons of 12 episodes each have been signed so far and we could see them take the crown from The Game of Thrones as the most expensive show on TV… Check back on your Amazon Prime subscription on November 18, and then every other week.
