German carmaker Volkswagen Ag has unveiled last week all the details regarding its latest Golf R – the car’s fastest iteration. Here’s the video.
The EA888 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine (the same engine found on the Audi S3) now has a total output of 296 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque. That’s 40 more hp and 37 pound-feet of torque. But that’s not all. The Germans are claiming fuel composition has been reduced by almost 20 percent compared to the actual model; 7.1 l/100km and CO2 emissions as low as 159 g/km.
Top speed – of course 250km /k because is electronically limited; but I’m betting is capable of more. On the same time 0 to 100 km/k takes just 5.3 seconds when equipped with the standard six-speed manual transmission (compared to 5.7 seconds – actual Golf R) and only 4.9 seconds when fitted with the optional 6-speed DSG gearbox.
Power to the wheels is transmitted via a Haldex four wheel drive system. The fifth generation Haldex is now capable to transmit almost 100 percent of power to the rear axle when needed. Sports suspension makes the car 20mm lower compared to the normal Golf, and 5mm over the Golf GTI.
The top of the line Golf will be officially unveiled to the public during the 2013 so check out our website during the event for more info and live images.
