We’re not going to give any spoilers – oh, well, we’re dealing with a sibling rivalry between the Mercedes-AMG A45 bomb in a nutshell and a CLS63 in station wagon form.
There’s no other way of putting this into perspective rather than thinking this could be a family feud – let’s say the missus’ got the A45 for her regular town meetings with the gals’ while the head of the family races to important business meetings in the CLS 63. And they somehow quarreled about who’s going to be faster when taking the kids to soccer practice. Or to the movies. Anyways, seeing the smallest AMG going against the larger flagship of the CLS series could deliver the result quickly – but no, like any good family argument, it’s not that simple.
The A45 is a true bomb in a nutshell – thanks to the feisty 2.0-liter turbo four splashing no less than 381 horsepower – that’s more than the hot hatch of the moment, the Focus RS. At the other side of the fence is the CLS63 Shooting Brake packing a 5.5-liter twin-turbo V8 and no less than 557 horsepower. It should be a no brainer to decide the winner, right? The catch is the smallest AMG has the 4Matic all wheel drive system in standard, whereas the CLS63 only equips it as an optional perk and the model in the battle makes do with the RWD.
