Top Gear’s Season 16 Episode 2 is now available. On this episode: Clarkson is on the test track in Ferrari’s new 599 GTO. Ferrari describes it as “an extreme V12 berlinetta developed to a specific performance-oriented brief”.
Richard Hammond and James May go head-to-head against their opposite numbers from Australian Top Gear in a car-based version of The Ashes.
With disciplines including rallying, drifting and an Aussie version of double-decker car racing, it’s an all-out grudge match that will almost certainly end in tears.
The 599 GTO is limited to only 599 units and is priced in the area of $450K. This is the fastest road-going Ferrari ever built — a lightweight, V12-powered coupe that is a masterpiece of competition-style detailing. When told, there’s an assembled intake of breath from the crowd. Output from the 6.0-liter V12 – itself derived from the Enzo’s engine – is up from 612 horsepower to 661, with torque up a modest 9 lb-ft to 457.
Mated to a F1 6″“speed gearbox, the Ferrari 599 GTO goes from 0-62 mph in 3.5 seconds with a top speed of more than 208 mph.
