Top Gear’s Season 17 Episode 3 is now available. In this episode: Finally, the McLaren MP4-12C is compared with its rival, the Ferrari 458.
And for the first time we have the new Range Rover Evoque under review. Also in this episode Clarkson and Richard Hammond find second-hand bargains for the price of Britain’s cheapest brand new car, the Nissan Pixo.
Talking about the new little range – the Evoque will have a starting price of $43,995 for the five-door, and $44,995 for the coupe, both including destination and delivery charges. The top-of-the-line, g-speed automatic Dynamic coupe with LUX pack is £44,320 in the UK. The new 240PS 2.0-litre Si4 petrol engine combines direct fuel injection, turbocharging and twin variable valve timing for exceptional driveability and fuel-efficiency and delivers 0-60mph in 7.1 seconds. This engine is expected to be a particular hit in the US.
Numerous fuel-economy techniques were adopted, among them electrical power-steering assist, a smart alternator that works hardest when the car is slowing down, an upshift indicator, early torque-convertor lockup, and stop-start capability.
Interesting is that the automaker claims the car’s handling was benchmarked against coupes like the Volkswagen Scirocco and Audi TT.
