Top Gear’s Season 17 Episode 6 is now available. In this episode: Finally, we have the new Lamborghini Aventador taken out on the track.
Jeremy Clarkson and James May set out for the seaside in a pair of electric cars, the Nissan Leaf and the Peugeot iOn, stopping off in Lincoln along the way.
Unveiled for the first time at the Geneva Motor Show on 28 February 2011, the new Lamborghini Aventador was designed to replace the ten-year-old Murciélago as the new flagship model. The 0-60mph time of 2.9 seconds and the 217 mph top speed are common knowledge. As you know, the Aventador sports an all-new 6.5-litre V12 engine weighing in at just 235kg, which produces 700bhp.
The ISR seven-speed gearbox, also a Lamborghini patent and industry first, is an incredibly flexible and robust unit. It’s roughly the size of a standard manual gearbox and weighs 154 pounds.
The Aventador also uses pushrods. Except they’re not in the engine, like all the other pushrods you know. They activate the coil-over dampers, which ride up in the middle of the car, reducing unsprung weight — and, more important, looking cool as all hell.
