Toyota recently introduced one of the most interesting models of late – the Yaris GRMN, a subcompact take on the hot hatch segment with a little bit of WRC twist in it.
And while the model has some great potential, we kind of forgotten about it with all the commotion in the compact zone of the hot hatch segment – you know, the Civic Type R snatching the front-wheel drive lap record on the Nurburgring and the impending introduction of the Megane RS. But Toyota doesn’t sleep and precisely for the European public they decided to highlight the Yaris GRMN in a new commercial – one that has the model’s angry exhaust going against the music that plays in the video to accompany the dancers.
The Yaris GRMN should indeed be interesting – at least to rally fans – because it wants to serve as the public road counterpart of their WRC machine, packing under the hood a rather large 1.8-liter supercharged four-cylinder engine with a mighty 205 horsepower (152 kilowatts) – linked to the front wheels with a manual six-speeder. There’s more chassis work, strut tower bars at both ends, a revised suspension, and larger brakes to make sure the fun stays like that. The design is also enhanced with 17-inch BBS wheels, a black roof spoiler, and decals – while in the cockpit there’s bucket seats, leather upholstery and red stitching.
