The Italian carmaker has just released a teaser video for its upcoming 500X small crossover, which is usually a good indication that the official reveal is just around the corner.
After the online reveal, the model – which is based on the Jeep Renegade – will make its official public debut during the upcoming Paris Motor Show in October. The US brand’s Renegade was unveiled a while back – in March, during the Geneva Motor Show – but the Italian sibling has been postponed for this autumn’s reveal.
The teaser video reveals little about the model’s overall design, but we did see the usual 500 design cues will be present, with the 500X being far from a Renegade copycat. For sure, though, the 500X’s body will be rugged, sporting an increased ride height, plastic cladding and beefier wheels than the 500L that it’s based upon.
Speculations about the powertrain arrangements include the usual range of four-cylinder MultiAir and MultiJet II engines sourced either from the Renegade or the 500 family, while gearbox choices should include a five and six-speed manual transmission or a dual-clutch DDCT and a 9-speed for the automatic versions. Most likely, only high-end versions will also feature an all-wheel drive system.
