Looks like the Americans have taken an order from the European pocketbook and decided their hulking muscle cars can also have a stellar run on the circuit – thanks to the all new Ford Mustang Shelby GT350R and the Chevy Camaro Z/28.
Unbelievable or not, while the US authorities are screaming for reduced fuel consumption to take charge across the automaker’s ranges in 2025, the companies are playing catch and mouse with each other in delivering the best ever track-ready muscle car. And in case you’re wondering why the Dodge Challenger Hellcat is not here, the answer is simple – it’s not track-oriented. And this comparison has to do with circuit-desirable muscle cars that can easily shame pedigreed European sportscars.
In one corner of the ring we have the hulking Chevrolet Camaro Z/28, which aims to kill the track with its massive 7-litre LS7 engine churning out 505hp and the kind of torque that would make you grab the steering wheel as if life depended on it. In the other corner sits the newer contender – the Mustang GT350R, dubbed as the most track-oriented Mustang ever thanks to its mindboggling 526 bhp flat-plane crank V8 and carbon wheels. Both look like they took aerodynamics classes form the Lockheed Skunk Works and Motor Trend decided to do the sensible thing – pair them and see who bleeds. We’re not spoiling the fun anymore and invite you to enjoy as you find out who’s got the upper hand both on and off track.
