After being officially presented at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September, the Polo R WRC has finally been tested by Volkswagen, with the German based automaker highlighting the “event” in a recent video.
Volkswagen has tested the Polo R WRC on a special German rally stage, close to Trier, with the double world champion, Carlos Sainz, behind the wheel. The Polo R WRC was driven 100 kilometers without suffering any technical malfunctions and the Spanish man was delighted of how the “pocket-rocket” felt like.
“I am very glad to be involved in developing and testing the new Polo R WRC and it’s a great honor to have the privilege to go through the first km. The car is still in its infancy, but it already feels great. For the whole team, whether we are talking about engineers, mechanics and pilots, it’s important to know the first car as soon as possible, to test it and to continue to develop it”, said Carlos Sainz after testing the vehicle.
Besides the Spanish driver, the Polo R WRC was also “taken for a spin” by the VW official Ulrich Hackenberg. The German manufacturer will continue to test the new Polo R WRC throughout the whole 2012 year on gravel, mud, snow and asphalt, in order to prepare it for the 2013 World Rally Championship.
