The new generation of the Range Rover Sport has recently went head to head with a Spitfire and what came out of that can be seen in the video posted below.
The brand new 2014 Range Rover Sport may have been unveiled just a few months ago and the popular SUV may be already available for order in most markets across the globe, but that doesn’t mean that the marketing campaign on the model has to stop. In order to promote it even more, JLR has decided to place it against a classic Spitfire fighter plane and if you’re curious to see what came out, all you have to do is scroll down and click play.
“It’s always difficult to find traction from a standing start on grass, but the Range Rover Sport made a great launch off the line. I was surprised by how bumpy the course was as I accelerated up to 130mph, and of course the other extreme challenge is to brake in time for the turn-around, but the car felt composed throughout the whole run”, said Mike Cross, the JLR chief vehicle integrity engineer.
The Range Rover Sport in question is powered by the new 5.0 liter V8 supercharged engine, which is producing a total output of 510 HP (380 kW). The Spitfire, however, is in a different league, getting a V12 Merlin engine, which is good for 1,750 HP (1,305 kW), enough for a top speed of 644 km/h (400 mph).
