You know those Hot Wheels Double Loop Tracks that have been popular for decades? Well this is for real!
A fearless driving duo has set a new world record by racing two life-size Hot Wheels racing cars through a 66ft double vertical loop based on a toy set.
“Boys of all ages around the world imagine playing with Hot Wheels on a life-size scale — and our vision with Team Hot Wheels was to transform this fantasy into reality,” said Simon Waldron, vice president of marketing for Hot Wheels at Mattel.
They both travelled around the track at 52mph and experienced around seven Gs of force as they went through the loop.
“I’ve been a fan of Hot Wheels since I was a little kid, racing cars around my parents’ living room,” said Tracy, a six-time Pikes Peak Champion and a Hollywood stuntman since 1991.
“So to be able to be a part of something like this — with Hot Wheels bringing one of its toys to life — is remarkable.”
‘That was pretty hard core: the 7 Gs … I almost felt my chin hit my lap, I think, in the loop,’ Foust told ESPN.
The track, two football fields long, was modeled on Mattel’s Hot Wheels Double Dare Snare toy racetrack set.
Foust and Tracy smashed the previous record for the largest loop in a car, set at 42 feet in September 2011 by Chinese driver Li Yatao in a Lotus 5 Sportback for Zhejiang Youngman Lotus Automobile Co., Ltd. in Shanghai.
