At least for now, until BMW and Audi can muster the time to deliver their own executive rockets – the M5 and RS6. But for now, the 2017 Mercedes-AMG E 63 S 4Matic+ is all there is.

The flagship model in the E Class family is now up to speed in terms of power and raw performance – allowing it to go head to head with some of the world’s best supercars. The E 63 S has 603 horsepower (450 kilowatts) and 627 pound-feet (850 Newton-meters) thanks to the V8 engine, with the sprint to 60 mph (96 km/h) taking just 3.3 seconds and a maximum speed of 186 mph (300 km/h) when the optional AMG Driver’s package is in place. It’s exclusively linked to an all-wheel-drive 4MATIC system with a trump card: Drift Mode. If activated, the high-performance sedan will go 100 percent rear wheel drive.

And it’s going to be entirely tail-happy because in order to enter the Drift Mode you need to have the dual-clutch AMG gearbox set in the manual mode and the ESP turned off – and we seriously recommend this scenario to happen on the track. As for design, the E 63 S is a little bit too restrained for our taste – the only thing screaming “watch me pass you like a business jet” being the reworked front end with massive lower intakes. Yes, you could also add a nice Night Package with carbon fiber accents for the exterior, and inside you can also have the AMG Performance steering wheel clad in Nappa leather and Dinamica microfiber.
