Swiss professional tennis player Roger Federer – which is one of the true living legends of the modern era in the sports – has agreed to appear in a series of rather odd videos for the latest campaign set up by Mercedes.
He is indeed one of the top tennis players of all time and also a global ambassador for the brand – and for the series he is also accompanied by some of the best sports models of Mercedes from different decades. “Roger Federer and the Mercedes-Benz SL – two rare performers whose greatness is undisputed.” Yeah, we could go with this marketing talk. Anyhow, in this series Federer is not really Federer. He is in fact cast as other tennis greats from the past half century – Rod Laver, John McEnroe, Andre Agassi, and Björn Borg. He enters the character and then he is also supported by an SL of the same era to “demonstrate the enduring excellence of these two timeless legends.”
The 2017 open top comes in four different flavors. The SL 400 is the access card with 367 horsepower (270 kilowatts) and 369 pound-feet (500 Newton meters) of torque. Then there’s the SL 500 with 455 hp (335 kW), followed by the SL 63 AMG and the SL 65 AMG, packing 585 hp (430 kW) and 630 hp (463 kW) respectively.
