The Japanese automaker has decided to entice us to another STI model, this time based on the Levorg wagon, with an expected release coming fast – this very summer.
Back at the 2015 Tokyo Auto Salon we saw the Levorg STI in concept guise and already the automaker is gearing up for the production series model’s launch. Now the high-performance wagon is becoming a reality – though unfortunately we’re still unsure if the model will also reach other markets aside from its home in Japan. The Levorg Concept S introduced last year was packing a turbocharged 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine of unspecified output that came linked to a six-speed manual transmission. Subaru Japan remained cryptic and didn’t say what is under the hood of the production version – though it may very well be the same 2.0-liter turbo. The Japan-exclusive WRX S4 with this engine has 304 horsepower (223 kilowatts), which is about the same power as the US and European WRX STI output, though the latter uses a 2.5-liter turbo instead.
It’s interesting to see the engine even had more power reserves as the Japanese division also outed a special edition WRX STI S207 last year, pushing the 2.0-liter to 328 hp (241 kW), and we’re hoping the Levorg will get that latest state of tune. Of course, besides being very powerful, the Levorg STI will also get the rest of the goodies, including sportier suspension, STI-specific alloys, and better brakes. It should also come with interior modifications, which add clamshell seats, sporty touches and numerous “STI” logos.
