While the US automaker is hard at work putting the finishing touches on the next generation of the iconic Wrangler, no one is sitting idle when it comes to the current incarnation.
Not even the carmaker itself – as they prepared a proper farewell for the current generation in the Wrangler Rubicon Recon showcased during the 2017 Chicago Auto Show. But the legendary model is even touched by far-away aftermarket specialists such as the Bulgarians from Vilner – which actually have a unique take on the 2012 Wrangler Unlimited, designed and created by the studio’s… Chinese unit. At first look, you might discard the vehicle as for one that has been decaying little by little – but it’s actually just an effect – it belongs to the Rat Rod culture.
You can also call this “controlled rust” as panels get stripped to the metal and allowed to rust – but then get sealed with special clear coats and techniques. And the Vilner special is an even more capable Wrangler – it has a custom off-road suspension with FOX components, a set of 37¬-inch ВFGoodrich Krawler T/A rock crawling tires, and а powerful Warn winch. Power is provided by the regular 3.6-liter, V6 naturally aspirated gas engine, packing 285 horsepower (212.5 kilowatts) and a six-speed manual. The cabin is pretty much brown – in different shades – as the client asked for “raw and robust look, completed by high quality natural materials.”
