The German based automaker Volkswagen has released a first teaser image with the Golf R Concept, ahead of the model’s debut during the 2013 Geneva Motor Show in March.
The Volkswagen Golf R will be the most powerful version of the new Golf 7 generation and the model is being placed into the spotlights in an official way for the very first time by the carmaker. The Volkswagen Golf R Concept is rumored to be unveiled in a few weeks, but its public debut will be made in Geneva, in March. The model in question will be a concept version and if you’re into the final production model than you should probably wait for the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show, where the hot hatch might be unveiled.
Rumors are saying that the Volkswagen Golf R Concept will get the same engine in the same configuration under its hood as the final production version, which will be the EA888 2.0 liter TFSI, producing a total output of 290 HP (216 kW). The unit will be mated to a six-speed manual or to a six-speed DSG, which will power the Haldex all-wheel drive system. Top speed will be electronically limited to 250 km/h. The new VW Golf R will be launched in Germany in early 2014 and its starting price is expected to be set at 38,000 euros.
