Volkswagen Golf R400’s production close to being green lighted image

The production version of the impressive Golf R400 Concept is close to becoming real as the model is just about to get the green light.

Despite being officially unveiled almost a year ago, at the Beijing automotive event, the Volkswagen Golf R400 Concept remains one important and also impressive model, which is now closer than ever to hitting the production line. According to a recent report, published by the guys from Autocar, the vehicle in question is close to getting the green light and eventually being assembled.

If it will be making its way into production indeed, than this will be the hottest ever version of the Golf. The model in question should be very similar in design to the concept and it will be offered in the same 3-door body style. The total weight of the car will stand in at approximately 1,420 kg, again, similar to the one of the concept.

Power to the VW Golf R400 will be provided by the same 2.0 liter four-cylinder turbo engine, sourced from the Golf R, which is capable of producing a total output of 400 HP (294 kW) and it has a peak torque of 450 Nm (332 lb-ft), which is making its 100 HP and 70 Nm of torque more powerful than the current range topping version. Power will be sent with a 6-speed DSG to the 4MOTION all-wheel drive system. From 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph), the concept can reach in just 3.9 seconds, 1 second quicker than the Golf R, and its top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h (155 mph).
