A new version to be based on the next generation of the Golf, the SUV, is said to be introduced sometimes in 2018.
The development plans of a Volkswagen Golf SUV aren’t exactly new as rumors on such a model have been around for quite some time yet. According to the guys from Car Magazine, the vehicle in question is expected to be based on the 8th generation of the Golf and this will be the first ever SUV to wear a Golf badge ever. The vehicle should be positioned above the current Cross Golf and it will not be an off-roader but it will join the growing crossover market with two wheelbase sizes.
Speaking on the wheelbase sizes, rumor has it that in Europe the model will be offered with a medium wheelbase, in 2018, while the long version will be saved for China and for the United States, one year later. In order not to cannibalize the Tiguan, this will move more upmarket while the Golf SUV will keep the five-door hatchback body and it will add the 4Motion AWD system, larger wheels, a raised suspension system and several other tweaks. Part of the engine lineup will be borrowed from the 8th generation of the Golf.
