Volkswagen AG said on Friday it sold 2.16 million vehicles, a 9.6% rise on the year, surpassing the two million mark for the first time in the first quarter of a year.
“We produced another strong performance in North America, China and Russia,” said the group’s management board member for sales, Christian Klingler.
In March, the VW Group sold 862,700 vehicles, +12.5 percent compared to the March 2011.
Sales in China, Hong Kong and Macau by Volkswagen Group China and its joint ventures totaled 633,800 cars in the first three months of the year, Volkswagen said in a statement Friday.
In Europe, the Group delivered a total of 937,000 vehicles (+3.2 percent) while in the North America region VW sold 179,100 vehicles (+24.5 percent), of which 124,400 (92,800; +34.0 percent) were delivered in the United States, the region’s largest single market.
In South America the Vw Group handed over 229,400 vehicles (+3.9 percent).
