It’s interesting to name your latest special edition Black Style, but certainly even more interesting is to have more than one color among the options – with the exception of black.
Volkswagen has decided to bring back into our attention the Scirocco coupe – which thanks to their mindless emission tricks part of the Dieselgate scandal might not get a successor. Anyways, the current model in the R guise will sport a subtle design upgrade thanks to the introduction of the optional Black Style package that should deliver an “individual look”. The move isn’t a surprise considering Volkswagen already has on offer the Scirocco Black Edition, with the Black Style in turn only offered on the flagship R version. By the way, while the name makes you think different, you can’t have the car in an all-black look. Instead the dark hue is used as the secondary option, being painted on the roof, 19-inch wheels (with 235/35 R 19 tires), and side mirror caps to deliver a styling contrast.
Meanwhile, the main hue has to be chosen between Ultra Violet Metallic, Rising Blue Metallic, Pyramid Gold Metallic, Pure White, Urano Grey, Indium Grey Metallic, and the oddly “Oryx White mother of pearl effect.” The Scirocco R Black Style will sport a 600 euros premium over the standard R version, as Volkswagen believes “dynamic and classy character” needs to cost you a pretty penny. Under the hood it’s the same turbocharged 2.0-liter gasoline engine packing 280 horsepower (206 kW) and 258 pound-feet (350 newton meters) of torque, mated to a six speed manual or an optional six-speed DSG.
