The Volkswagen Passat GTE has went official over the web ahead of its public debut which will take place over the next few days, at the 2014 Paris Motor Show.
Volkswagen’s newest creation is named the Passat GTE and this has been based on the eighth generation of the model, coming in a plug-in hybrid variant. The vehicle is basically identical visually speaking than its standard sibling but it does slightly stand out from a crowd thanks to its blue accents on the radiator grille, to the integrated C-shaped LED lights, to the different front bumper, the larger alloy wheels and several other tweaks, including the flat bottom steering wheel finished in leather, redesigned gear knob or blue ambient lighting.
The Volkswagen Passat GTE is taking its power from a hybrid petrol electric system, which includes a modified version of the 1.4 liter TSI petrol burner, with 156 HP (115 kW), backed up by an electric motor, rated at 115 HP (85 kW) and 400 Nm (243 lb-ft) of torque. The total output produced by the assembly stands at 218 HP (160 kW) and it is sent to the wheels through a six-speed dual clutch automatic transmission. The 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) acceleration is made in less than 8 seconds and top speed stands at 220 km/h (137 mph). The fuel consumption is averaging a whopping 2.0L / 100km (141 mph).
