The German based automaker Volkswagen is currently planning to develop a Golf-branded crossover which should be introduced over the next few years.
Volkswagen is apparently looking into the C-segment for crossovers as the company is apparently planning to develop a Golf based version of such a model. The announcement hasn’t been made official for the moment and it is actually part of a report published by the guys from Car Magazine. According to our source, the vehicle in question will apparently be based on a next generation of the model and not on the current Mk7.
Our source is also saying that this will be more potent than the CrossGolf and it is expected to come in two wheelbase lengths, a standard one, for the Old Continent, and a long one, for the United States and for China. It will come in a five-door hatchback body style and it will put some distance between it and the current Tiguan. The model will get underbody protection, an increased ride height and large wheels with off-road tires. The 4MOTION AWD system is also expected to make its way onto the model. If it will become a reality, than the Golf based crossover will compete with models such as the Nissan Qashqai.
