The new generation of the Santana has been recently caught testing in China, where its German based automaker Volkswagen is planning to introduce it, as a new generation.
According to chinacartimes.com, the new Volkswagen Santana will be replacing the current model on the Chinese auto market. The VW Santana, now named the NF, is scheduled to hit the production line in mid-2012. The journalists at chinacartimes.com are also saying that even if this new model looks more likely like the new Volkswagen Polo Sedan, underneath it all is the ne VW Santana NF platform and powertrain, which will also be shared by the new Jetta NF and the new low cost Skoda, possibly the Rapid or even the Mission L.
The 2013 Volkswagen Santana is expected to come with a choice of two new engines, with 1.6 liter and 1.8 liter displacements, which will be favored over the more expensive TSI units. Besides these two new engines, the new generation of the Volkswagen Santana will also come with a 1.4 liter TSI, fitted with the stop / start technology as standard, codenamed the EA111.
Production of the 2013 Volkswagen Santana will be limited in the first year to 60.000 units and by 2020 the model will hit its peak, which has been set at 350.000 units annually. This is all the information we’ve got regarding the new VW Santana but the model might be presented sometimes next year during a local auto show.
