Volkswagen Polo has already brought the company a good market share in Indian small car market, but another model, based on Volkswagen UP series, will be the new affordable and less expensive car on the roads of Brazil, India and China around next year.
The company is known as one of the auto makers who have invested billions of dollars over the last few years in India, to use the country as a global manufacturing hub and to capitalize on this growth market. Now, Volkswagen wants to have an 8%-10% share of India’s car market in 2018, when the market is expected to reach annual sales of 5 million units.
This small car will give tough competition to Hyundai Santro Xing and Maruti Wagon R in the Indian auto market, for the price of about 6,000 Euros. Although the company has not announced the car’s features and specifications, it is rumored that it will arrive accompanied by 800cc of petrol and 1.2 litre of diesel engine, which would be made by Volkswagen India.
The exact unveiling date is not known, but it will arrive in India after being displayed to the world during an event organized at Paris Grand Palais, on the Champs-Elysees in Paris.
