Volkswagen to develop BMW 5-Series competitor image

A competitor which will tackle the BMW 5-Series is currently planned by Volkswagen.

Volkswagen has some big plans for its future car lineup and in between developing replacements for its current models, such as the Passat, the company will also introduce some new vehicles, including the five-seat crossover, which will be presented at the 2015 NAIAS, in Detroit, next month, in a concept form for the moment. Besides this, the car manufacturer is also planning on introducing a high-end model, which will be tackling the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, the BMW 5-Series and the Audi A6 (weird), amongst others.

The announcement on the model in question hasn’t been made official at this time and it is part of a report which has been published by Autobild. According to our source, the new vehicle will be based on the next generation of the Passat, in the U.S. spec, or even on the Audi A6. As far as the engine options go, these are a mystery at this time but rumor has it that it will receive four- and six-cylinder petrol and diesel options and even an all-wheel drive system. The new 5-Series rivaling Volkswagen will be produced in the United States, in Mexico or China and it should cost approximately 37,500 euros.
