Volkswagen to make five-door up! image

The Volkswagen Group seems to be in frenzy with its new urban vehicle the up! and after its sub-brands are constantly announcing different versions of the small car, the German automaker decided it’s time to present to the public with a new five-door version, but its future customers will have to wait until next year to get their hands on one.

“The cross up! previews the five-door up! but with the styling cues of an SUV, including suspension raised by 15 mm all round. The most obvious differences when compared with the standard up! are of course the additional doors and the styling of the C-pillars. While on the three-door car the shoulder line and windows ascend towards the rear near the C-pillars, on the five-door the two elements form a straight line, creating more upright appearance”, as Volkswagen says in the official press release.

Not much is known about the five-door up! version but the vehicle is expected to be powered by a 1.0 liter three-cylinder petrol engine which is delivering between 60 and 75 horsepower. The German automaker says that the three-door up! can be ordered in October and the first model are expected to hit the UK auto market in spring 2012, while the five-door version will arrive later that year.
