The German based automaker Volkswagen has confirmed that the Up! GT, along with an EV version of the model, will hit the market soon.
After starting its life as a simple rumor earlier this year, the Volkswagen Up! GT is finally confirmed by the German carmaker which is announcing the model for production. The Up! GT won’t go head to head with models like the Renault Twingo RS or the Abarth 500 but it will still get enough power to get you from A to B with a smile on your face. Volkswagen says that the 1.0 liter three-cylinder engine will be boosted by a turbocharger to 109 horsepower.
Besides the Volkswagen Up! GT, the carmaker will also produce an all-electric version of the popular urban vehicle, which should make its way onto the market in the first half of 2013. No details have been announced on the Volkswagen Up! electric for the moment but if it will be well received, an all-electric version of the VW Golf will be launched in 2014 too. Additional details on the VW Up! GT and the VW Up! electric are limited for the moment and will probably be released close to their launch.
