The German based automaker Volkswagen is apparently planning to introduce a turbocharged version of the Up!, which should be introduced later on this year.
The Volkswagen Up! family is getting ready to receive a brand new member, in the shape of the Up! Turbo. The announcement hasn’t been made official just yet, but according to the Brazilian media, the model in question is close to hitting the production line. The final version of the model will be based, of course, on the GT Up! Concept, which has been officially presented to the public back in 2011, at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
The one-off vehicle used to weigh approximately 900 kg (1,984 lbs) and it packed a 100 HP (74 kW) turbocharged engine under its hood. Despite the promises were saying that a production version of this model should have hit the assembly line by now, the company preferred to keep it somewhere hidden, but don’t worry, because it won’t be long until you will see it in a dealership nearby.
The new Volkswagen Up! Turbo is expected to get a 1.0 liter TSI turbocharged three-cylinder gasoline engine under its hood, from a Polo facelift, which will also be compatible with ethanol. Power will be sent to the front wheels through a 5-speed manual transmission. The model should be officially introduced in May. More details on it are limited at this time and will be announced close to its unveil date.
