Volkswagen worldwide sales up 9.5 percent in August

Volkswagen worldwide Passenger Cars brand grew deliveries further in the period from January to August, handing over 3.34 (January – August 2010: 2.98; +12.1 percent) million vehicles to customers the automaker said in a statement.

In August the German automaker delivered 389,500 (August 2010: 355,800; +9.5 percent) vehicles.

“The Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand continues to make good progress. We delivered well over three million vehicles in the period to August for the first time. We are nevertheless keeping a very close eye on developments on the world’s automotive markets,” Christian Klingler, Board Member for Sales and Marketing for the Volkswagen Group and the Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand, commented in Wolfsburg on Friday.

Herndon-based Volkswagen of America Inc. (PINK:VLKAY), reported sales in August of 25,232 units, an increase of 20.7 % compared to last year. Much of the increase was due to theJetta model line, which sold 14,500 units compared to 10,667 in August of 2010.

In the Asia region, the Germans delivered 1.26 million vehicles from January to August, of which 1.13 (1.02; +11.3 percent) million units were handed over to customers in China, the largest single market.
Europe sales were up +9.1 percent, in Germany customers took possession of 394,700 (362,000; +9.0 percent) new Volkswagen vehicles.
