Volkswagen has introduced the new XL1 to the United States, where the model is currently on display at the 2013 Society of Environmental Journalists Conference, in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Originally introduced at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show, back in March, the impressive Volkswagen XL1 has recently made its public debut in the United States. The model in question is the world’s most fuel efficient and aerodynamic production car and it’s estimated to get over 200 mpg in the U.S. cycle.
“Volkswagen is proud to debut this ultra-fuel-efficient vehicle before the Society of Environmental Journalists, a group that shares in our commitment to environmental stewardship”, said the Volkswagen Group of America general manager of Engineering and Environmental Office, Oliver Schmidt.
The Volkswagen XL1 is taking its power form an 800cc two-cylinder diesel engine, which is good for 47 HP, helped by an electric motor, which is generating an extra 27 HP. The model also has a 5.5 kWh battery pack. Volkswagen says that the hybrid vehicle can travel on electricity alone for 31 miles (50 km) and it has a total range of 310 miles (499 km). The 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) acceleration takes 12.7 seconds and top speed is 100 mph (160 km/h).
