Volkswagen XL1 might cost EUR110,000 image

The German based automaker Volkswagen is planning to launch the new XL1 production car with a whopping starting price, set at 110,000 euros.

The announcement hasn’t been made official just yet but according to the guys at Autoblog, the new Volkswagen XL1, in its final production version, might hit the market with a whopping price tag, set at 110,000 euros (145,000 USD). This price is worthy of a sports car or a luxurious vehicle, not a small car powered by an 800cc diesel engine, but its impressive fuel consumption might transform it into the new “Toyota Prius”, stealing the crown from the Tesla Model S, and this means that the company will have to produce more than the 250 units originally announced.

The new Volkswagen XL1 will be powered by an 800cc two-cylinder diesel engine, producing 47 HP, backed up by an electric motor which is generating an extra 27 HP. Juice to the electric motor is being provided by a 5.5 kWh battery pack. The 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) sprint takes 12.7 seconds and top speed stands at 160 km/h (100 mph). The hybrid car can travel on electricity alone for 50 km (31 miles) and with a full gas, the total range will stand at 499 km (310 mph).
