Volvo announced that the next-generation S80 saloon and V70 estate will be named S90 and V90 when they will hit the market in 2015.
Besides the highly expected 2014 all-new Volvo XC90, are also the replacements for the S80 saloon and the V70 estate, which will be named S90 saloon and V90 estate to move in line with the XC90. This means that the popular XC70 will also have its named changed to V90 Cross Country. Rumors say that the automaker is considering adding a large coupe to the 90 series line, maybe badged C90.
All these new models will be based on Volvo’s Engine Architecture and new Scalable Platform Architecture, as it is the situation with the XC90. According to anonymous sources the company might offer a preview of a C90 coupe this September at the Frankfurt Motor Show, but the S90 and V90 will hit the market sometime in 2015. This week Volvo announced its plans to introduce the next generation XC90 in 2014 and said that the model won’t be inspired “too much” from the Concept You and it will be larger than the current one.
“The new car will be only slightly bigger on the outside, but with more space inside. The look will be a development of the latest Volvo designs, but won’t draw too much from the Concept You car”, said Peter Mertins, the Volvo senior VP of Research and Development.
