Volvo has released new details on its SPA (Scalable Product Architecture) which will be used on the next generation of the XC90.
The 2015 Volvo XC90 is promising to be a path leader in terms of safety, and not only, and in between teasing the model and developing it, the Swedish based automaker has released some new details on the SPA, which will underpin the next generation of the SUV. The model in question will weigh less and will have a more even weight distribution. The carmaker says that all upcoming SPA-based vehicles, including the XC90, will be safer and more compact.
Some of the safety equipment integrated into the next-gen SUV will include the Road Edge, Barrier Detection, Driver Alert Control, Lane Keeping Aid and much more. The model will also be equipped with the Bowers and Wilkins audio system. Thanks to the usage of the new platform, the 2015 Volvo XC90 will get a third row of seats which can be used by people up to 170cm tall. The engine lineup will be topped by the 2.0L four-cylinder turbocharged and supercharged T8 plug-in hybrid, with the internal combustion unit powering the front wheels and the electric motor powering the rear axle. The output will stand at 400 HP (298 kW) and 640 Nm (472 lb-ft) of torque. The electric range will stand at 40 km (25 miles). The model will be unveiled in two weeks, in Stockholm, Sweden.
