Volkswagen first decided to ditch the Passat moniker when describing the hotter CC four-door coupe version and now there’s a completely new nameplate on the line for the next generation.
VW is mere days away from showcasing the all-new Arteon – CC’s replacement for the Geneva Motor Show. Naturally, the marketing folks over from the Wolfsburg headquarters have seen fit to entice us to the arrival via a teaser story that offers glimpses of the firm’s new top of the line model seemingly renamed Arteon. As far as we can tell, the Sport Coupe Concept GTE was a pretty good indication of the exterior design – the previewing concept is already two years old as it premiered during the same auto show in Switzerland. As it turns out even the color is just about the same and seems to have been inspired by the refreshed Golf’s Turmeric Yellow.
We’re pleasingly surprised by the close styling connections between the new Arteon and its previewing concept and we can see that goes for the rear end as well where the only thing that changed are the taillight graphics. Naturally, there are changes to account for – conventional door handles, reworked side mirrors, a different configuration for the third-side windows and the addition of a trunk-lid spoiler. VW has so far described the Arteon as a “fastback” which isn’t a clear indication whether the series model will be a regular sedan or a hatchback like the concept.
