ABT has officially pulled the wraps off the new Volkswagen Golf 7 GTI Dark Edition and the Polo R WRC, which will be officially presented to the public, during the 2013 Essen Motor Show, this month.
The new VW Golf 7 GTI Dark Edition has received a black finish on its body, with some red accents, a dark finish for the headlights, taillights and mirror caps, a front spoiler and skirt, some redesigned side skirts, a rear skirt with the black quad chrome exhaust arrangement, a trunk lid attachment and some other tweaks.
ABT says that the most important update is found under the hood of the C-segment hot hatch, where the 2.0 liter four-cylinder turbocharged unit is now producing a total output of 300 HP (221 kW), which is quite impressive, considering the fact that the standard car is “only” getting 230 HP (169 kW). The 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) sprint is made in 5.8 seconds, 0.6s faster than before.
Besides the Golf 7 GTI Dark Edition, ABT has also unveiled the VW Polo R WRC. This is getting the same engine under its hood as the Golf 7 GTI and it has received a power upgrade which is bringing its total output form 220 HP (162 kW) to 290 HP (213 kW). The model in question is also getting the new 18-inch DR alloy wheels, replacing the standard ones. More details on the two hot hatches will be announced in Essen.
