VW Ag expects to sell more than 7 million vehicles for the first time this year, the German car-maker’s CEO Winterkorn said on Tuesday.
“The Volkswagen group is benefiting disproportionately from the upswing in the most important car markets,” Martin Winterkorn told Reuters.
The aim is to dethrone Toyota (7203.T) as global market leader within a few years. More exactly, Vw with its brands – VW, Audi, Skoda, Seat, Bentley, Lamborghini and Bugatti sold a record 6.29 million vehicles last year, the only car-maker that posted gain in 2009. On the same time, Toyota the largest car-maker in the world sold 7.81 million vehicles globally in 2009, down 13 percent from 2008.
“This new delivery record is an important milestone for the implementation of our Strategy 2018,” Winterkorn said, referring to the group’s plan to sell more than 10 million cars by that year.
