The IAA Commercial Vehicles show has seen Volkswagen taking the wraps off the Multivan PanAmericana – a new addition to the sixth generation Transporter family.
The version will cater to the adventurous wild side of the business – as it has been gifted with additional ride height and an all wheel drive system. The Multivan PanAmericana is just one of the 33 versions on display at the IAA, but it’s the most interesting for, well, being the newest. It has a crossover flair to it by enabling the owner to go off-road with lots of people by his or her side. The van can be punished in the wilderness because it has the protection – front and rear skid plates, side-sill protectors, and cladding along the vehicle’s lower edges. The design tweaks also lend an elegant twist though: smoked taillight lenses, tinted rear windows, and textured paint for the bumpers.
Volkswagen decided to increase ride height by 0.79 inches (20 millimeters) and also provides the familiar 4Motion all-wheel drive – but customers can even get the regular suspension and front wheel drive if they just want the rugged looks. The interior is more on the luxury side though: two-tone upholstery with Alcantara pads, multi-function leather steering wheel and aluminum pedal covers, while the Climatronic HVAC system should keep everyone comfy. The powertrain options are wide and wild: five diesels and two petrol units. There’s even a new TDI option with 113 horsepower (84 kilowatts). Prices kick off from 47,552.40 euros ($53,100) for the FWD and start from 54,983.95 euros ($61,400) with 4Motion, in Germany.
