On September 25, one of Volkswagen’s most important China-made models, the seventh-generation Golf, rolled off the product line in Foshan. In the next three years, Volkswagen will usher in another wave of homemade models, increasing from the current 21 China-made models to 30 by 2015.
VW CEO Martin Winterkorn previously announced at Volkswagen annual report press conference, that in the next few years VW plans to build 7 new factories in China and promote the whole production capacity in China to 4 million vehicles by 2018.
“Volkswagen plans to further expand its product line in China by 2015, sales models will increase to 91, including 30 China-made models, the number of which will increase by almost 50%.”, Volkswagen China President and CEO Heizmann, said now in a recent interview.
Looking at Volkswagen China extension map, Faw-VW has built factories in China from the northeast to Guangdong, southern province while Shanghai Volkswagen directly set up auto factory in the far west Urumqi, Xinjiang. A large production network is also expanding in the Chinese market.
When setting up the factory in Foshan, Guangdong Province, Heiziman said: “Volkswagen is fast advancing the “Southern Strategy” and “Western Strategy”. “Western strategy” is to open a factory in Urumqi, Xinjiangi, which was put into operation more than a month ago. We here today will continue to promote the “Southern strategy”, and put the factory production into operation in Foshan ”
Introducing China-made models will be an important step for VW to occupy market share. The new generation Golf has already been put into production in the Foshan plant, Faw-VW. SUV models will be the next growth point in China, and few SUV concept models have separately entered into the Faw-VW and SVW-made products library.
