VW Sales Up 5.9% from January to May image

VW sold 3.87 million vehicles during the first five months of the year, up 5.9% compared with the same period last year.

In May VW delivered 816,500 vehicles, up 6.9%, compared with 763,900 units in May 2012. From January to May the group’s brands sold 1.53 million vehicles, down 3.5% in Europe, with 473,100 units, down 3.3% being sold in Germany. Sales in North America increased 13% to 360,000 units, with 249,300 units sold in the US, up 11.2%. In South America sales dropped 0.4% to 375,400 units and in China sales reached 1.28 million units, up 18.2%.

The VW Passenger Cars brand sold 2.41 million units, up 5.3%, with sales up 17.6% in the Asia-Pacific region, 4.4% in North America, but down 7.3% in Europe. Audi sold 640,200 units, up 6.7%, with sales in the Asia-Pacific region up 15.6% to 218,500 and 14.9% to 73,600 units in North America.

Porsche sold 67,300 units through May, with 200,000 vehicles delivered in the Asia-Pacific region and 19,400 units in North America. Skoda sold 377,200 units, down 7%, with 96,700 units, down 10.1% in Europe and 111,600 units, down 7.7% in the Asia-Pacific region. Seat sold 149,100 units, up 11%, with sales in Germany up 30.9% to 30,700 and in the UK up 12.6% to 18,500 units. VW Commercial Vehicles brand sold 219,900 units, down 0.3%, from which 66,800 were sold in Europe, down 0.5% and 61,800 units in South America, up 10.9%.
