During the first four months of the year VW sold 3.05 million vehicles, up 5.6% from the same period last year.
This is the first time when the automaker surpassed the 3 millionth mark for the January-April period. last month VW sold 784,600 vehicles, up 7.2% from the 731,900 vehicles sold in April 2012. The situation in the European market remains tense as the group sold 1.21 million vehicles during the first four months, down 3.9%, from which 635,900 units being sold in Western Europe, excluding Germany.
In its home market VW sold 370,200 vehicles, down 4.4% from 387,500 units sold last year. In Central and Eastern Europe, the automaker sold 199,100 units, down 2.9% from 205,100 units. Sales in North America were up 12.9% to 279,900 vehicles, from which 193,900 units were delivered in the US. South America fell 1.6% to 292,000 units, from 296,900 units sold during the same period last year.
In the Asia-Pacific region sales remained encouraging at 1.14 million units, up 16.5%, from which 1.02 million sold in China, up 18.4%. Sales in India fell 23.1% to 33,400 units, from 43,500 units in the January-April period 2012.
