VW stopping Eos production as A3 Cabrio gets the green light image

Audi will introduce the new A3 Cabrio in early 2014, most probably at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show, and is expected to be available for orders in summer.

With a wheelbase of 2.67 meters, the next generation A3 Cabrio will no longer complete with the VW Golf but with the BMW 1 Series Convertible (well yes – the upcoming 2-Series Convertible ) and the Opel Cascada.
But considering fact that the new A3 Cabrio will have the same size as the unsuccessful VW EOS, the German giant will stop to build the EOS after the A3 Cabrio will hit the market.

Klaus Bischoff, Volkswagen’s head of global design confirmed that an EOS replacement is not in the cards.

The new two-door A3 convertible will likely get all the engines from the sedan, so expect choices to include a 1.8 liter 180 HP TFSI petrol and two 2.0 TDI diesel engines. There are rumors about a possible S3 Cabriolet that will future the same engine found in the S3 – and an RS3 Cabrio that will get the 2.5-liter five cylinder engine.

The new cabriolet will be almost identical to the A3 Sedan up until its A-pillar, after which most of its sheet metal will be unique.
Like the A5 Cabrio, the rear seats will feature a pyrotechnic roll over hoop which pops up in the event of a crash.
Most probably it will be made in Hungary where the German automaker confirmed for Inautonews that they will build the sedan.
